Reduction of stress is the best approach, however it is not always feasible. As such, it is important that employees learn how to properly handle stress for their own health and to avoid unecessary absences that cost the company loss of productivity and resources.
This course will briefly outline what causes stress; what factors at work (and outside) can contribute to it; and what the potential consequences are.

Dr. Graveling first became involved in research into stress in the 1970’s. This early work culminated in 1978 with the award of his PhD for research into the alleviation of the effects of mental stress by physical activity. He joined the IOM soon afterwards where stress remained an area of interest. In 1986/87 he was involved in research into stress in colliery managers and, around the same time, he became a member of the Editorial Board of the planned international journal ‘Work and Stress’. First published in 1987 the journal, edited by Professor Tom Cox, continues to be published today and Dr Graveling remains a member of the Editorial Board.
Over the years his team at the IOM has been instrumental in developing approaches aimed at identifying and reducing causes of workplace stress. As part of this they have carried out research, funded by the Health Education Board for Scotland (HEBS) and the Health and Safety Executive, developing a risk assessment procedure. He was also recently the primary author of a review into the effectiveness of workplace interventions to improve mental health and wellbeing, carried out on behalf of NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence).
In addition, he and his team provide advice and consultancy services to employers, working with them to develop and implement a strategic approach to dealing with stress in the workplace.
The price of this one-day Managing Stress in the Workplace course is £350.00 (Excl. VAT).
